Richard Tsai is the chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, the largest financial holding company in Taiwan by market capitalization and the second-largest by assets, with total assets of US $351.1 billion as of June 2023. The company has been the most profitable in its industry in terms of earnings per share for 14 consecutive years. In his 40 years with the Fubon Group, Mr. Tsai has founded Fubon Securities, Fubon Life, and Fubon Asset Management, and overseen M&A deals involving Taipei Bank, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), ING Life, Hyundai Life, and JihSun Financial Holdings. He also founded Taiwan Mobile and now serves as a director on its board. As its vice chairman and chairman from 2006 to August 2018, he successfully led efforts to capitalize on the trend toward digital convergence. Mr. Tsai earned his bachelor of laws degree from National Taiwan University in 1979 and his MBA from the Stern School of Business of New York University in 1981. He also earned an honorary doctorate of engineering from Yang Ming Chiao Tong University (2022), an honorary doctorate of medicine from Taipei Medical University (2022), and an honorary doctorate of commerce from Fu Jen Catholic University (2020). He serves as a member of the New York Philharmonic’s International Advisory Board (IAB) and a trustee of the Carnegie Hall Corp. He also serves as a member of New York University’s President’s Global Council and of the NYU Stern executive board.
