Tricia Griffith was appointed Progressive’s president and CEO, and elected to the board of directors, in 2016. Prior to being named CEO, she was the Personal Lines COO since April 2015, overseeing the company’s Personal Lines, Claims, and Customer Relationship Management Group after serving as president of customer operations. Ms. Griffith joined Progressive in 1988 as a claims representative and held several managerial positions in claims before being named chief human resources officer in 2002. In 2008, she returned to claims as the group president. Ms. Griffith has a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business’ Advanced Management Program. She serves on the board of directors at FedEx, is a member and serves on the board of the Business Roundtable, and is an associate of the Business Council. In 2018, Ms. Griffith was the first woman to be named Businessperson of the Year by FORTUNE and ranked 54th on the Forbes World’s Most Powerful Women list. Since taking over the CEO role, she has been named one of the Most Powerful Women in Business by FORTUNE each of the last six years. She received the 2021 Excellence in Gender and Diversity CEO Award from the World Business Collaborative and, in 2022, she was honored by St. John’s University’s Maurice R. Greenburg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science as the 2020 Insurance Leader of the Year, becoming the first female recipient in the award’s history.
